Heliopolis

Heliopolis is located in  the north eastern district of Cairo.  Heliopolis in Arabic is 'al-Masri gedida'.

It was founded by the Belgian Baron - Edward Empeynom in 1905.
Originally Heliopolis was a satellite town, thought of as the capital of Egypt.  However, eventually it became a fully fledged area of Cairo.

The district was designed by a joint team of European and Egyptian architects in a Moorish style. Here you will find many low rise buildings protected from the sun.

The second floors of properties here benefit from broad balconies.  On the corners of hourses, you will also find exquisite turrets.

In Heliopolis, there is a luxurious palace , which is the office of the President of Egypt.  The palace was originally built as a hotel (Geliopolis Palace) and is one of the best on the African Continent.
