Meteorological experts expect temperatures to rise to 36º in the next couple of days. This rise in temperatures will be accompanied by an increase in humidity levels, which will reach 90 percent in coastal areas and 85 percent in Cairo.

These weather conditions are expected to persist until Monday.

The Central Public Agency for Meteorology (CPAM) also urged the public to be aware of sand storms, which have recently hit Governorates in Upper Egypt and led to the closure of Aswan Airport.

Waheed Saoudi, Director of Meteorological Analysis at CPAM, said the weather has been unstable in Luxor, Aswan and Halayeb, all of which have been hit by sand storms. Visibility in these areas has been reduced to less than 1000 metres.

The storms are expected to be accompanied by rainfall in the next few days, according to Saoudi.

Salah Mahmoud, Head of the Research Institute for Astronomy and Geophysics, said the earthquake which shook some areas in Sinai yesterday had a magnitude of 4.2 on the Richter scale. The epicenter of the earthquake is located 70km east of Nuweiba, to the east of the Gulf of Aqaba.

Mahmoud added that several cities in Sinai had been affected by the earthquake, including Dahab, Nuweiba, Taba and Sharm el-Sheikh, but had not suffered any loss of life or property.

Mahmoud also said that the cities lie on an earthquake belt, adding that a report on the causes of the quake will be submitted to the Cabinet.
