Region: Egypt
Created: Sep 06, 2010, modified: Jan 13, 2012, overall rating: 5.000

Fish Napoleon got its name from the characteristic bump on the head, resembling a hat of the French emperor. The divers are very fond of this fish, perhaps, because of the clumsy appearance and large size, and also, because of the expressive eyes, very carefully considering you.

These fish are particularly numerous at the Ras Mohammed (not far fromSharm El Sheikh), the southern tip of the Sinai Peninsula, where diverswere feeding them with boiled eggs, which is now prohibited. Like otherwrasse, it has well-developed jaw articulation, and it swallows the prey by powerful sucking motion. Juveniles are grayish-yellow color, whileadults' dressed in an elegant blue-green sheen with whimsical drawingson the head, resembling hieroglyphs. There are fish on the coral nearHurghada and Marsa Alam.
