Cairo University is featured among the world's best educational institutions for the fifth year running, according to the British QS Top Universities ranking.
Cairo University's vice president for post-graduate studies, Hussein Khaled, said the university ranked 147th this year in the fields of medicine, science, and biology, increasing its position by more than 50 spots. The institution also ranked 210th in arts and humanities, and 258th in engineering and information technologies.
It was excluded from the ranking of natural and social sciences as Cairo University's research studies in those fields are published in Arabic.
Saudi Arabia featured four universities in the top 600. While Israel failed to rank an institution in the top 100, four of its universities were included in the list. The Hebrew University ranked 109th, Tel Aviv University came in at 138th, the Israeli Institute of Technology (Technion) ranked 159th, and Ben Gurion University in Negev pulled up the rear at 373rd.
