Hurghada resort owners charged with environmental violations

Head of the Red Sea Governorate, Magdy Qobeisy, decided on Sunday to refer two Hurghada tourist resort owners to general prosecution.
The resort owners are charged with utilizing 4970 meters of seashore for construction projects, as well as degrading the marine environment in the Northern Islands natural reserve.
A Red Sea reserves’ report said the violations took place three months ago.
Owner of Krotel resort, Saber Mahmoud Morsy, allegedly developed 2370 meters of the shore without required permits. Belal al-Baalabky, Lebanese owner of the Maresort resort, is accused of developing 2600 meters of the shore.
Financial damages are estimated at US$120 per meter.
Hurghada prosecutor Mohamed Ramadan conducted the investigations.
