Field Marshal Hussein Tantawi, head of the Supreme Council of Armed Forces (SCAF) is to testify at the trial of toppled president Hosni Mubarak on Saturday.

Mubarak, his two sons, Gamal and Alaa, former interior minister Habib El-Adly, and six of his assistants are all accused of complicity in the killing of protesters during the Egyptian Revolution.

Field Marshal Tantawi was supposed to testify before the Cairo Criminal Court on 11 September but he didn’t attend due to security concerns.

This came after the incidents at the Israeli embassy on Friday 9 September, when some activists got into the embassy archive floor, others removed the Israeli flag and some destroyed the wall in front of the embassy.

No media is allowed to attend the court while Tantawi delivers his testimony.

Tantawi is Mubarak’s former defence minister and now heads Egypt’s ruling military council.
