Egypt's foreign ministry has decided to recall the Egyptian ambassador to Qatar, Mohamed Fawzy, as he has been summoned for questioning after lashing out at the ministry for a decision to transfer him to Iraq.

Fawzy said on Thursday that he has been in charge of the Egyptian mission in Qatar since 2010, and thanks to his efforts, the bilateral relations of both countries flourished unprecedentedly.

For this reason, he is convinced that transferring him to Iraq is unfair, saying the 2011 revolution did not have any positive effects on the ministry, which is plagued with corruption. He also called for the sacking of Egyptian foreign minister Mohamed Kamel Amr.

In return, the foreign ministry said on Friday that, through his statements, Fawzy had broken the rules ambassadors have to abide by and therefore will be summoned for questioning in Cairo.

The ministry also stressed that the decision to transfer Fawzy to Baghdad was based on its estimation of what is best.

Fawzy's outspokenness came after he lodged a complaint against the decision to transfer him, which was turned down.
