Egypt to achieve $21 billion tourism income by 2022

He highlighted several measures taken by his ministry to address the impact of the world economic crisis.

The measures included the promotion of relations with leading world travel agencies, he said.

The ministry also increased allocations for tourism promotion, he added.

Tourism topped the economic sectors in Egypt in 2009, despite challenges, said Minister Zohair Garana .

Some 12.5 million tourists visited Egypt in the past year, Garana noted.

The revenues stood at 10.7 million dlrs, he added.
The Minister underlined the importance of the British market for the Egyptian tourism industry.

The number of British tourists jumped to 1.3 million in 2009 from 8,358 in 2000, said Garana.(SIS)
