The judicial committee supervising the referendum on the new constitutional amendments, slated for 19 March, held its first meeting on Sunday at the State Council.
“According to recently proposed constitutional amendments and the law on political rights, a supreme judicial committee is to be formed to supervise the referendum," the committee said in a statement. "It will be headed by State Council Vice President Mohamed Ahmed Atteya, with six councilors as members.”
The councilors are Hossam al-Ghiriany and Mohamed Momtaz Metwali, vice presidents of the Court of Cassation; Al-Sayed al-Tahan and Ramzy Abul Kheir, State Council vice presidents; Ahmed al-Bardisy, president of Mansoura Court of Appeal; and Abdel Moez Ibrahim, president of Ismailia Court of Appeal.
Sources said the committee will soon announce the general guidelines of the referendum.
