The Resort

Built along 10 kilometres of beachfront and spreading across a myriad of islands interlinked by beautiful lagoons, the resort is marked by its distinctive architectural charm. The resort is a luxury leisure destination offering 14 hotels, an 18-hole USPGA golf course, 10 diving centres, sailing marina, hospital, international school, casino, brewery and a private radio and TV station.

History

The El Gouna dream started with a single man in search of the best spot on the Red Sea to build his house and a jetty for his boat. From there the resort developed into 19 million square meters of land along 10 kms of fine sandy beaches. In 1991, the first hotel opened its doors. The airport was built in 1997 and Abu Tig Marina followed in 1999.

Location

Only 22 kilometres north of the Hurghada International Airport, El Gouna is just a short flight from Europe's major capital cities. Perfectly situated along the dramatic Red Sea coastline, El Gouna offers good access to Egypt's world-famous historical treasures and natural wonders.

The Town
Services and activities are centred around the immaculate downtown village and the marina harbour town. Both allow easy access to the numerous amenities El Gouna has to offer; great shopping, health treatments, an unbelievable selection of restaurants, fabulous sailing boats, immaculate beaches and fantastic hotels.

What makes El Gouna truly unique is its eclectic and sophisticated international flavour. Over 3,000 European and Egyptian families have already bought properties here and the town's population includes over 10,000 permanent residents from all over the world.

EDUCATION

International School

Established and opened in 1998, the El Gouna International School (EGIS) is a co-educational facility for the Egyptian and International families living in the Red Sea area. The school operates using two curriculums (Egyptian and British). The International School shares its premises with the Language School, which provides a full Egyptian curriculum with an emphasis on higher level English.

Located Downtown, the school's faculty consists of over 30 teachers and assistants originally from the UK, Australia, Germany, France, Estonia, Poland, India and Egypt. During Spring 2006, the student body comprised of 160 children aged between the ages of 4-18, representing roughly 20 different nationalities.
